Improving Your Home

With ever rising energy bills and the growing environmental threat isn’t it time you made your home more energy efficient…

According to the Energy Saving Trust (EST) most average UK homes can save around £300 per year simply by making a few small changes.

Here are a few things you could implement starting from today but for a more in-depth advice call us today and speak to one of our energy saving consultants.

Lighting

Switch off the light every time you leave a room, and consider installing energy efficient light bulbs. Not only are they cheaper to run but they can actually last up to 12 times longer than conventional light bulbs. According to the EST, for each energy efficient light bulb fitted up to £9 can be saved on your annual electricity bill.

Make your appliances more energy friendly

Some appliances use just as much electricity in stand-by mode as they do when they are fully switched on. Although this is not the case with every appliance, and manufactures are making more effort to improve appliance energy usage when on stand-by, the EST still feels that you could save around £37 a year if you switch them off when they are not in use.

Your fridge/freezers are already working pretty hard to keep your food cold, but putting hot food in them means they have to work even harder to keep it cool.

If you are purchasing a new appliance, always look out for it's energy ratings indicator.

Sort out those draughts

By filling those annoying draughts around openings and floors you can save around £10 - £20 per year.
